Terms of Service

These Terms of Service apply to your use of the UK Electrical SIM website, simulator, video library, mock examinations, downloadable materials, and related content, together the Service. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Access and account security

Public pages may be viewed without an account. Using the simulator requires a registered account and is subject to the access level attached to that account. Limited Access is available without charge; Full Access requires a paid fixed-term subscription unless we grant trial, invited, or administrator access. You must keep your account credentials confidential, use them only for authorised purposes, and notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

We may suspend, restrict, or withdraw access where reasonably necessary for security, maintenance, misuse prevention, legal compliance, or protection of the Service and its users.

Registered accounts without an active paid subscription may be treated as inactive if they have not been accessed for at least three months. Where practical, we may contact the account email before removal. If the account remains inactive, we may close, delete, or anonymise the account and associated server-side account data, normally between three and six months after the last account activity. Simulator workspaces and forms saved in your browser remain on that device until you clear them. We may retain limited records where reasonably necessary for security, misuse prevention, dispute handling, legal compliance, or enforcement of these terms.

We may monitor requests to the Service and apply automated security controls, including rate limits, burst limits, temporary blocks, account or session restrictions, and other proportionate measures where activity appears excessive, abusive, automated, harmful, or inconsistent with normal use.

2. Acceptable use

You must use the Service lawfully, responsibly, and in a way that does not harm the Service or others. You must not:

  • breach applicable law, regulations, or third-party rights when using the Service;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, simulator, hosting environment, accounts, or connected systems;
  • introduce malware, denial-of-service activity, excessive automated requests, scraping abuse, or other technically harmful material;
  • copy, resell, reverse engineer, decompile, or extract protected code, content, or educational materials except where the law expressly permits it and that right cannot be excluded;
  • present simulator outputs as certification, compliance sign-off, site inspection results, or professional electrical advice.

3. Simulation, education, and electrical safety disclaimer

The Service is intended for learning, demonstration, planning, and digital simulation. It does not replace competent professional judgement, live testing, inspection, design verification, certification, or safe-isolation procedures.

Any outputs, examples, forms, calculations, or visual diagrams provided by the Service may be simplified, incomplete, or unsuitable for a real installation. Any real-world electrical work should be checked by a competent person against applicable requirements, including site conditions, manufacturer instructions, DNO requirements, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, and relevant editions of BS 7671 where applicable.

4. Intellectual property and licence

Unless stated otherwise, the software, simulator logic, branding, page design, text, graphics, audio, and educational content are owned by or licensed to the operator of UK Electrical SIM. All intellectual property rights are reserved.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use the Service for personal learning, evaluation, or internal staff development, subject to these terms. This licence does not transfer ownership. If you send feedback, ideas, or suggestions, you allow us to use them to improve the Service without payment or further approval.

5. Availability, changes, and linked services

We may update, improve, suspend, or withdraw any part of the Service at any time. We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or free from defects. Content may change from time to time and may not always be kept fully up to date.

Where the Service contains links to third-party websites, products, standards bodies, or external resources, those links are provided for convenience only. We are not responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices.

6. Fees and paid services

Limited Access is available without charge. Full Access is offered as a paid, fixed-term subscription at the price and duration shown on the Subscription page and during checkout. The current individual plan provides 12 months of Full Access for one payment and does not renew automatically. The introductory price applies only to the term purchased. Any later purchase is optional and will use the price and terms shown before you approve it.

Access normally begins after the payment provider confirms payment. The payment provider may apply its own terms to your payment account and checkout. We do not add a payment fee, but you are responsible for any currency-conversion or account charges imposed separately by your provider.

If you buy as a consumer, you may have a statutory right to cancel a distance contract within 14 days. To request cancellation, email support@electricalsim.com with the account email and payment reference. Where access or digital content starts during that period at your request, any charge or loss of cancellation rights will apply only where the law permits and any required express consent and acknowledgement were obtained. This does not limit statutory remedies where digital content or services are faulty, misdescribed, or not supplied with reasonable care and skill.

You may use the following wording, although it is not compulsory: “I give notice that I cancel my contract for 12 months of UK Electrical SIM Full Access, ordered on [date]. My name is [name], my account email is [email], and the date of this notice is [date].”

7. Liability and consumer rights

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

If you are a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for business losses arising from consumer use, or for loss caused by your failure to follow the safety warnings, account-security requirements, or reasonable technical instructions in these terms. Where the Service is supplied free of charge, it is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without limiting rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

If you use the Service wholly or mainly for business purposes, then, to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, business opportunity, goodwill, anticipated savings, or data. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights under applicable law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015, remain unaffected.

8. Governing law and disputes

These terms, and any non-contractual dispute or claim arising out of them or in connection with them, are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer protections allow you to bring a claim in another part of the UK where you live.

9. Changes to these terms and contact

We may revise these terms to reflect changes to the Service, law, security requirements, or our business. Updated terms apply from the date shown on this page. We will give reasonable notice of a material change where appropriate. A change will not remove paid access already purchased or materially disadvantage an existing paid term without a valid reason and any remedy required by law.

Questions about these terms should be sent to support@electricalsim.com.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is collected and used in connection with the UK Electrical SIM website, accounts, simulator, video library, mock examinations, subscriptions, and support tools. It is intended to provide the information required by the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Data controller and contact

UK Electrical SIM is currently operated as an unincorporated service. The current operator determines how and why personal data is used and is therefore the data controller. Privacy enquiries and data-rights requests can be sent to support@electricalsim.com.

The Service is intended to transfer to a UK limited company using the UK Electrical SIM name after incorporation. This notice will be updated with the registered company's details before it assumes responsibility as data controller.

2. Personal data we collect and where it comes from

Depending on how you use the Service, we may process:

  • Account data: your name, email address, account identifier, access level, account status, and authentication information;
  • Learning data: active mock-exam session identifiers, selected paper and randomised question order, plus answers and results processed temporarily to mark the current paper;
  • Subscription data: payment-provider subscription and transaction references, subscription status, access dates, and related payment-status information;
  • Support data: messages, contact preferences, and relevant account or technical diagnostics included with a fault report or support request;
  • Technical and security data: IP address, browser or device information, requested pages or services, timestamps, session identifiers, error logs, and security events;
  • Simulator data: circuit or workspace information submitted for server-side calculations. Saved workspace files, forms, settings, and testing-pad information otherwise remain on your device unless you choose to submit them; and
  • Correspondence: enquiries, complaints, rights requests, and other communications you send to us.

This information is obtained directly from you, generated when you use the Service, or received from payment, hosting, authentication, security, and content-delivery providers. We do not ask you to include special-category personal data, financial account details, or information about other identifiable people in simulator notes or fault reports.

3. Why we use personal data and our lawful bases

  • Contract: to create and administer accounts, authenticate users, provide simulator, video, and mock-examination features, mark the current mock paper, manage access levels, provide support, and administer subscriptions.
  • Legitimate interests: to operate, secure, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve the Service; prevent fraud and misuse; investigate faults and complaints; enforce the terms; and protect users and infrastructure. We consider whether those interests are proportionate and whether your rights override them.
  • Legal obligation: to maintain records or disclose information where required by tax, accounting, consumer, data-protection, court, or regulatory requirements.
  • Consent: where you make an optional choice that legally requires consent, such as future optional marketing or non-essential cookies or similar technologies. Consent can be withdrawn at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

First name, last name, email address, a login credential handled by our authentication provider, acceptance of the Terms, and successful security verification are required to create a standard account. If you do not provide them, we cannot create or authenticate the account. A reply email and permission to contact you in a fault report are optional.

4. Payment processing and subscriptions

A specialist payment provider handles checkout and payment credentials under its own privacy terms. To start and administer a subscription, UK Electrical SIM sends the provider an account reference and may send the email address associated with your account. The provider returns subscription, transaction, and event information, which may include subscriber details, so that we can grant, maintain, or expire Full Access and deal with payment queries, refunds, or disputes.

UK Electrical SIM does not ask for or intentionally store your full card or bank-account credentials. Those credentials are handled by the payment provider. We store the limited subscription and transaction-related records needed to administer access, reconcile events, meet legal obligations, and handle disputes.

5. Browser storage and essential technologies

The Service keeps one copy of your sign-in session in the browser's local storage; it does not also duplicate that session into first-party authentication cookies. Legacy cookie copies created by earlier releases are moved to local storage where possible and then deleted. Browser storage is also used to remember simulator settings and retain locally saved workspace or form progress. Some sign-in information may remain for up to 30 days. Simulator information remains until it is cleared, overwritten, or removed through your browser settings.

Human-verification, security, video, and content-delivery services may receive browser, device, and network information when their widgets, thumbnails, media, or other resources are loaded or used. Storage that is strictly necessary for a requested feature, authentication, payment, or security is used for those purposes. If non-essential analytics, advertising, or similar technologies are introduced, they will not be used until any consent required by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations is obtained.

6. Service providers and sharing

We use a limited number of provider categories to operate the Service:

  • Account and database providers authenticate users, deliver account emails, and store account and service records;
  • Cloud, website-delivery, and security providers host the website and backend, route requests, protect the Service, and provide human verification;
  • Payment providers process subscription checkout and return the payment-status information needed to administer access; and
  • Video and content-delivery providers deliver videos, thumbnails, and necessary website resources when those features are used.

We may also disclose relevant information to professional advisers, regulators, authorities, or a successor organisation where reasonably necessary or legally required. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising. Providers receive only the information relevant to the service they provide and may act as processors on our instructions or as independent controllers for services such as payment accounts or externally hosted media.

7. International transfers

Some providers operate internationally and may process personal data outside the UK. Where a restricted transfer takes place, we use an available lawful transfer mechanism, such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to standard contractual clauses, or another lawful safeguard. You can contact us for information about the safeguard relevant to your data.

8. How long we keep personal data

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described above:

  • account and access records are normally kept while the account remains active;
  • active multiple-choice mock-exam session state is removed when the paper is submitted or no later than four hours after its deadline; answers and results are used to mark the current paper and are not retained as account attempt history;
  • circuit and workspace information sent for server-side calculation is processed to return the requested result and is not stored as a saved workspace, although limited security or error logs may be retained as described below;
  • registered accounts without an active paid subscription may be deleted or anonymised if they remain unused for three months or more, normally between three and six months after the last account activity;
  • subscription and payment-status records may be retained for up to six years after the relevant subscription or transaction ends where needed for accounting, legal obligations, or disputes;
  • support enquiries, fault reports, and complaints are normally kept for up to 24 months after the matter is closed;
  • routine security-event records are normally kept for up to 90 days, but relevant records may be kept longer while an incident, complaint, or legal claim remains open; and
  • browser-stored simulator information remains on your device until you clear it, the app overwrites it, or your browser removes it.

Limited residual copies may remain temporarily in secured backups. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised unless longer retention is legally required.

9. Account closure and erasure

You can ask us to close your account and erase personal data by emailing support@electricalsim.com. We will verify the request before acting. Closing an account cancels any active payment subscription connected to it, removes the authentication account and linked access and session records, and deletes or de-identifies other linked personal data where there is no lawful reason to retain it.

Some payment, security, complaint, fraud, or legal records may be retained or minimised where necessary for a legal obligation, dispute, or documented legal hold. An erasure receipt may be retained without the former user's account identifier or email address. Browser-stored simulator data is held on your device and must be cleared through the browser or relevant in-app controls.

10. Automated access controls

Automated controls may require human verification, apply rate limits, end duplicate sessions, temporarily restrict suspicious activity, or update Full Access using verified payment-provider subscription status. If you believe an access decision is wrong, email support@electricalsim.com and ask for a human review.

11. Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • request access to and a copy of your personal data;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • ask us to erase or restrict personal data where the applicable conditions are met;
  • receive certain personal data in a portable format;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests; and
  • withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent.

Your right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests by explaining your circumstances. You can always object to direct marketing, and we will stop using your information for that purpose.

These rights are not absolute and depend on the circumstances. We may need to verify your identity and will normally respond within one month.

12. Children and younger learners

The Service may be used by learners under 18. We aim to minimise the personal data used, apply protective defaults, and do not use children's information for targeted advertising. A child under 13 should not create an account independently or submit personal data without the involvement of a parent, guardian, school, or training provider.

13. How we protect personal data

We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards, including access controls, restricted service credentials, encrypted network connections, request validation, security monitoring, and controlled deletion procedures. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure, so please use a unique password and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised account access.

14. Contact, requests, and complaints

Privacy questions and rights requests should be sent to support@electricalsim.com. Please use "Data protection request" as the subject and explain the request clearly.

If you are unhappy with how we handle personal data, we would welcome the opportunity to resolve the issue first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

15. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We review this notice when the Service, its providers, or its use of personal data changes. Material changes will be brought to users' attention where appropriate. If we intend to use personal data for a new purpose, the relevant information will be provided before that processing begins.

Additional Legal Notices

1. Operator and company disclosure

UK Electrical SIM is currently the name of the Service and is not presented as an incorporated company. The Service is intended to be owned and operated by a UK limited company using the UK Electrical SIM name after incorporation. Once incorporated, this website will be updated with the company's full registered name, company number, registered office address, and place of registration.

Before paid subscriptions are made generally available to consumers, the website and checkout information will also identify the legal trader and provide the business and service-contact details required for distance contracts.

2. Professional boundary

Use of the Service does not create an engineer-client, consultant-client, or regulated professional advisory relationship. The Service is an educational and operational support tool, not regulated legal or engineering advice.

3. Copyright and trade marks

The UK Electrical SIM name, simulator interface, documentation, forms, and educational materials are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws unless stated otherwise. Any permitted use must remain subject to these terms and any written permissions we issue.

4. Security and misuse reporting

You must not knowingly introduce viruses, trojans, worms, or other malicious code, or attempt to interfere with the normal operation of the Service. Activity that appears to breach the Computer Misuse Act 1990 or other applicable law may be investigated and reported to the relevant authorities.

We may use hosting, edge security, database, authentication, and monitoring providers to detect excessive requests or other misuse. Security reports may identify accounts, sessions, IP addresses, routes, timestamps, user agents, rate-limit events, and temporary block decisions so that we can protect the Service and investigate abuse.

5. Legal notices and takedown requests

Legal notices, infringement complaints, and takedown requests should be sent to support@electricalsim.com with enough detail for us to identify the material, the basis of the complaint, and how to contact you.
